Yep - there's no instant gratification in college football
It's definitely going to take time but you can already see progress on recruiting in terms of size, speed and a willingness to go the grad transfer, JUCO route as needed. Read what the recruits are saying about "the Colorado way" and you know the culture change is on.

It's a multi-year process but signs of progress will be very evident over the latter half of this season. We will play for 60 minutes with noticeably more toughness, discipline and intelligence. I fully expect we'll beat USC and/or UW in Boulder and MT will get us to a bowl game.

Then 2020's recruiting class will show what MT and staff can do and what the future's going to look like.

Not entirely fair
Weโ€™ve had good production from the WR and RB positions and put some guys into the League.

I have no doubt they would have had even more impact with a decent OL. Which I TOTALLY agree has been the biggest area of disappointment in recruiting and player development.

CS William is clueless about RG
He inexplicably claimed there are "thousands upon thousands" who could do a better job than RG and also that RG has had to move jobs frequently because people figured him out.

He's so far out of touch about RG there's no point in trying to have a rational discussion with him.

In my opinion, RG is one of the top ADs in the conference. RG absolutely crushed it with the MT hire, both in the process and the result!

Whats your problem with RG?
"Neither Mike Bohn or Rick George has been able to deliver a coach that could cpovercome these hurdles - "
RG JUST only hired MT a couple of months ago. MM was a Bohn hire, not Rick. Not able to deliver from the areas you list?? Take a look at the grad transfers and recruits that jumped on with Mel Tucker in few short weeks since his hiring : JAUNTAVIUS JOHNSON, JALEN HARRIS , JANAZ JORDAN, JEREMIAH DOSS, AUSTIN WILLIAMS, MARVIN HAM.

Have you seen the offers for 2020 and where they're from? Probably not.

CU should be so lucky to keep RG.

This is known to every coach. It is both true and simple.
Colorado high school is just so thin in terms of production of D1 athletes. Our athletic director made the mistake of hiring coaches that showed no sign of being able to truly able to recruit kids away from the Midwest, Texas and the south. Neither Mike Bohn or Rick George has been able to deliver a coach that could cpovercome these hurdles - when you think of CU having to fire McKintyre a mere two seasons after a huge contract extension, itโ€™s clear that he has put us on the same course as Bohn did before.

Hereโ€™s hoping that Rick Grirgefinally gets it right. Coach Tucker has a lot of promise. The fact that he comes from the south and that heโ€™s African American should be huge pluses. None if us should like the fact that heโ€™s lost some very good kids that were already here. Maybe it was unavoidable - and I do think the future is bright.

You could say that about WR, QB, DL, RB etc etc etc
Winning just not important to CU. Only explanation. Need to invest in a coach. You build facilities and let a FCS coach steer the ship. Tripping over dollars to pick up pennies.

As a result, recruiting has suffered. Not too distant future our recruiting classes have been dominated by 2 and 3 star recruits. That cant happen. I am excited to see MT has the same mentality that many successful coaches have, be dominant in the trenches. Size matters, covers up a lot of weaknesses

Step 1
That is step 1 in winning football games. This type of comment has to come down from the head coach through the line coaches. It's been a long time since a Colorado head coach voiced thoughts like that. It didn't look like some of the previous coaches even had an unexpressed thought like that.

I like this from MT paraphrasing
I love Big Men that can move other Big Men against their will.

Sounds like the days of getting pushed around in the trenches will be over soon.

Combination of things.
The last 6 years, you can confidently say its been a lack of emphasis and bad coaching (Benardi/Adams). MT is delivering the beef. This class he's addressing DL depth. I'm sure we'll see from 2020 onwards much more big uglies in each class.

Re: MT has his work cut out for him
Not as bad as the rebuild after Hawkins and Embree, but there is a lot of work to be done. This team looked soft and slow those last seven games. Confidence fell thru the floor after the Oregon St debacle.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Seems like chump change for a pitcher like Otto. Maybe they are saving heir $$ for Arenado who they may not get anyway. I don't get it, hard to see them back in the playoffs with McGee or Shaw as their setup relievers.

He wasn't a qualifier out of HS. he had to play 2 years of JUCO and get his AA to be eligible. CU only has one open scholarship for next year and they don't need any more 2 guards (signed 3 last cycle)

Another Colorado kid that CU staff whiffed on
Jervay Green played at George Washington with Daylen Kountz (before Kountz transferred to East for his senior year). This kid is a little bit better than Kountz.

CU didn't even offer him after he went to Scottsbluff. Maybe the academics scared them off?

He has committed to Nebraska

Not exactly
You seem to be referring to UW's home court and their schedule. Their home OOC games this year wasn't much better than the Buffs if at all. As for Arizona, their best OOC home game was Baylor. Most of their good OOC games were outside of Arizona.

If you want to talk about OOC away from the home arena as neutral court or true road games, then you have a point. No P5 team had a worse OOC schedule than the Buffs IMO.

Just another excuse of Tad's
Homecourt advantage of AZ and Udub much better than Buffs, yet they still seem to have decent OOC schedules.

He's just a junior and is a decent PG that can shoot some, so maybe....
He's averaging 20 ppg on a balanced, talented team. He shoots about 37% from 3 and 88% from FT line.

Hard to say if he can. Chaparral was the leading contender to win state until their best player transferred, but their still pretty good and he is their leader.

Chaparral's leading scorer last year was Ronnie DeGray III (Dad was a CU grad who played with Chauncey) who has transferred to an academy back east for his senior year. He's 6'7 and pretty skilled, just not super athletic. He was considered the best player from Colorado until he left. He only has 4 offers from mid-majors, Air Force, Denver, Montana State and South Dakota. That doesn't look like switching to an eastern HS academy has made any difference since only 4 Western schools are offering. CU is interested, but has not offered yet.

Re: Is it hard to schedule nonconference
Obviously we could schedule a better non-conference and I am not sure why we don't. I did notice this on twitter the other day. I am not a kenpom guy so I don't know if what I am about to say is true. But according to the link below does this suggest by KenPom's statistics that CU has the top home court advantage in the country? (At least statistically? Help me out metric guys).

Probably a factor of being so terrible on the road as well as being tough at home.

#truthitude
the Buffs are the ONLY P5 team to not play a single P5 team in the OOC. Most played several and they also played them as a true road game or on a neutral court.

What surprised me is that Maryland's OOC wasn't great (but not as bad as the Buffs). Can't Tad get Mark Turgeon to do a Home and Home some year? They were teammates and Tad worked for MT at some point. SMH

defenders to the basket. His 3 point shooting speaks for itself.

is the pac 12s motto championships or bust? whats wrong with 2 for 1s? strike that, i dont want to know.

personally glad tad gets one more year with this group. still the goat of buffs men basketball coaches. consistent nba draft picks who actually succeed once there. postseason appearances. laughable when weighed against the rest of buff history (except ceal). not saying tad hasnt made mistakes or couldn't do better.... i wish i had a fast forward button to next year with assurance that injuries won't be a problem and that the pac 12 will schedule marquee nonconference matchups.

Harden would have only scored in the thirties w/o all those foul shots.
Seriously he is a great player but the league and their refs is clearly pumping his numbers by calling fouls anytime he gets in the lane or flops after a 3 point attempt.

It's happened before, in fact from Tennessee
David Harrison. Patton got him in a clever way - by recruiting big brother DJ a couple years before. (DJ was a nice player, for sure.)

Sure there's a ton of talent in Memphis. In fact if their team is underperforming, shame on them with all that talent in their back yard.

But having talent in your back yard is not required for success (think KU, Gonzaga, Arizona), nor is it a guarantee of success.

It can happen here. We need to think BIG, starting with the Head Coach. If we're paying Tad $2m / year, isn't it worth the gamble to pay a higher profile coach $4m or $5m?
