Will 2017 be forever known as the "lost season"?
I cannot get over how badly we played. There were two games we simply didn't even look like we were trying: Washington State and Utah. Neither of those squads have that much more talent than us. It also looked like we stopped trying in the 2nd half against CSU and slept walk through most of the two games against Texas State and UNC. Really rather embarrassing. Honestly, I have never seen ANY Buffs defense look so bad against the run as it did against ASU, AZ, last year. The tackling was just plain ridiculous.
Prior to the season, I know a lot of you had already made up your minds against MacIntyre as a coach (and after 2017, I have my doubts too), but one thing you have to admit about M.M: Up until this last year his teams always fought hard. They stayed in games against teams that could have easily blown them away. They were scrappy, tackled well, and they played hard to the very end, even though the results were often disappointing. Last year, that wasn't true. Even if you thought M.M was over his head as a Pac-12 contender, he got respectable results on the field from 60-70th ranked recruiting classes.
2018 is going to be a very telling season. Is the glass half-full or half-empty? The half-full glass says that last year was the aberration. The glass half-empty scenario says the 2016 season was the aberration. Either way you look at it, the 2017 season has got to be the most disappointing and puzzling year we've ever had since the Hawkins era.
