The visibility isn't the key difference. When MacCartney was starting to build the Buffs back scholarship rules were different, USC & UCLA were terrible, Texas schools were down and a number of top schools now were irrelevant in recruiting. Also, it was far easier to get non-qualifiers into CU.

Not saying Mac II is a great recruiter or his staff is the caliber of Mac I but it is a very different landscape.

The one thing we haven't had since Mac I is a set of assistants who were always being looked at for headcoach openings. One thing that I am sure has driven that is we have to pay headcoaches so much that affording the top next tier is mostly only doable by the top top programs.
