Bottom line. This was an even game.
CU dominated CSU for 1 quarter and it was the other way around for another quarter. In between there were lots of miscues and mediocrity on both sides. OL concerns aside, we still don't seem to have an offensive identity. We may well have one of the most athletic QBs in CU history, and we seldom used him effectively. How about planned roll-outs, option reads, etc? There was no commitment to anything on the offensive side of the ball in the way of either power running or wide open passing, etc... In 2nd half, we reacted rather than dictated. Defensively, we played better than anyone expected.
This was a first game, so I hold-out hope that there will be much improvement ahead especially if we can get Irwin back. I feel more relieved than good about this win. CSU definitely got hosed. I don't think I've ever seen 3 TDs called back in one game. Should have been 17-17. Nobody knows how the game might have turned out after that, but it would have been interesting at the very least.
My other hope is that we DID actually struggle against a pretty darn good team last night. Unlike some of you, it doesn't make me feel better to belittle an opponent we beat.
