is what CU gets in state funding for the overall university. I'd bet that's about as low if not lower than any other "state" institution (except CSU). And I don't think any state funds go to the AD. This is why it's crucial to have a strong football program that historically has paid for all other sports teams (men and women), except men's bb when it's successful.

As Irish says, CU alums don't donate at the level of many D1 schools either. One factor in that could be our high % of out-of-state students (whose tuition rates help fund CU while they're here), but who often move back home - out of sight, out of mind. That's why the move to the Pac 12 was such a no-brainer - CU out-of-state students often come from Pac 12 states, so less out-of-sight, out-of-mind for dear 'ol CU.
