Very good questions...

I've wondered the same thing. The large majority of schools with D1 football also have baseball and softball. I see a ton of D2 and D3 schools that have baseball and softball.

IMO CU is thinking short term. Sports are an investment. Most sports lose money but the benefit comes from the publicity generated by these programs and how that success motivates alumni to support the school. Hell, Sam Houston St won the Lubbock region (beat Texas Tech and Arizona) in baseball to advance to the Super Regionals. You don't think that motivated SHS alumni to write some big checks?? Not to mention the potential impact on recruiting and the positive publicity for the school. It's like free advertising.
