Play calling
I often wonder how much play calling really matters in college football in recent years; clearly run/pass balance is important in keeping D's off balance. 2 seasons ago it didn't seem to be much of a problem for CU since we were scoring points. Last year though the play-calling drove me bat-shit, especially the sidewise passes which I think should be outlawed, I hate them so much (except the occasion when it works for big gains for us). But we had the ever-changing offensive line changeup. Reminded me of the hated the mickey-mouse dink and dunk during the Hawkins/Helfrich era.
This year we have a lights-out offense which makes the play-calling look great, but we have a stable lineup with talent everywhere. The question is, did Lindgren get wiser or did all the pieces just come together this year, with stable O-line, Chiv, and more experienced skill players? I suspect the latter, esp. when we get a game like Stanford where we march down the field then stop the flow to send in the bulk package in the red zone and blow it. Or we get conservative unexpectedly like the USC game or several games in the 3rd Q.
Did play-calling improve this year or is it the same with a better team? Inquiring minds want to know at 3am in the morning...
