It's going to be tough to keep Montez off the field
After the first opportunity to see a lot of Montez in a real game situation, he's got one thing that could make him #1 IMO - he sees the field better than SL and JG. From what I saw, he went to the right guy on every broken coverage today. He also worked across the field multiple times to come to a third route. He even did that once and discovered a TE out there! Probably surprised the sh!t out of the TE. He's not really setting his feet on some of his throws, and he's still accurate. Get this kid into some QB clinics this summer to fix his footwork, and we might have the elite QB we've been looking for for a decade. I wonder how well he throws on the run, and whether we can incorporate more of that into the offense. Seems like he had a nice throw on the run in garbage time earlier in the season.
Is MM comfortable enough with Montez now to open up a QB competition for the rest of the year? Nothing against Sefo, and I'd still enjoy watching him play, but I think based on the performance of both guys up to now, Montez has earned a shot at starting against USC.
