2016 -- I think that student athletic teams should play all games as scheduled. They should not boycott a scheduled game as a means of protest. That impacts unfairly on the coaches, trainers, support staff, opposing team, alumni, season ticket-holders, etc. It actually has a negative effect on their cause, as the ticket holders start to feel as if the team will not be responsible to show up for the game.
However, if they wish to join a protest movement and participate as individuals, then I think it is their First Amendment right to do so. However, boycotting a game is not a productive action to take, IMO. -- B4E
