The negatives are serious


the long half life of the toxic spent fuel, the danger of having widespread targets for terrorists, the cost of errors.

I personally feel that we can address the USE of power a lot easier that we can the generation. I think we could cut the amount we really need to a fraction, if we move into a more disciplined usage pattern.

And, if I am going to be optimistic, I think there are discoveries that may be available, even today. If we can be so inventive with drilling for oil and gas, why can't we tap the geothermal source? A constant, never ending source of heat, without any toxic byproduct, that is available everywhere. Massive investment? Maybe, but compared to WHAT? Geothermal could provide ALL the heat we use to be comfortable, in any weather, and what would happen tot he sources we have now for solar?

Anyway, I'm seriously nervious about not only accidents, like Japans issues, but also the determined efforts of people to destroy our world, and the "genie in the bottle" has always been too tempting
