I think it's partly a culture issue


Most of the states with a heavy black constituency are southern states. Southern states historically tend to favor southern democrats. Sanders is a Northeastern Jewish candidate from a lilly-white state, Clinton is a southern Methodist, who's husband offices in Harlem, is the former gov of Arkansas, and has a long history of championing civil rights issues.
