Sonny never won a national championship as a head coach. As a head coach, nationally he was considered just a little above average. That is proven out in his bad bowl record and that there was no higher level team that ever wanted him. And don't blame it on his age. He could only win in the MW and the WAC. At the end he was getting senile. Even talking out of both sides of his mouth. He would act locally as a friend of CU and then go off to Nebraska and he would degrade CU. He was a classless phony. Not even the best ever at CSU.
