Absolutely correct in you assessment....

Roger Ross at Thomas Jefferson in 1997. Terrible home life. Mother had nothing to do with her children, the father loved the sports his kids played but had been no help financially. Roger would take a local bus to school transferring three times to get there before class. All on his own. Came home at night and no one would be there except his younger siblings.

His grades were terrible because he had to work after school. He excepted a scholarship to Kansas and at the signing used my phone to call his mother. She hung up right after he said to her, "mom I'm going to Kansas on a full ride." He didn't make his grades and went to a Kansas JC. At the JC he got a full meal each day and teachers who say his potential. He worked very hard and played wide receiver at Kansas State I believe. Graduated in the top half of his class two years later.

He just needed a break and he got it at a JC. A success story anyone would be proud of.

Yes I would take JC kids at CU without any question as long as they try. And I believe there are many Roger Ross's out there who want something better.
