I might be wrong, but I thought the dust bowl


Was largely caused by farming practices, i.e. Using one way plows to turn over and loosen the soil. I have heard that the recent drought in the Great Plains www actually worse than the dirty thirties. The combination of draining the Ogallala aquifer and no til farming prevented the dire consequences experienced in the 30s.
