This is too much for me to stay quiet on. The "the hard liners have no interest in the Northwest" is, well, no comment but to say this: we just spent well over $200 million, maybe double that, taking down the Elwa dam at the north end of Olympic NP. The purpose is to restore the salmon habitat as well as restore the valley to its natural state.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to take these dams down? And expensive? We had to build a very high end water treatment plant to monitor and control turbidity levels. It was expensive to build and is expensive to operate. Tearing down these dams isn't done by snapping your fingers. It takes years of planning, design, construction, monitoring, and maintenance.

Is the result desirable and something we all want? Yes. But you can't just throw significant money at everything you think is a good idea.
