You need a combination of the two, but
you can't win in todays game without shooters. Especially in college where the 3 point line is a foot and half closer than it is in the NBA.
IMO perfect mix for college starting five is 1 true big, 1 true lead guard that can initiate the offense and handle the ball against pressure plus 3 wings that can can shoot, but one of the the "wings" is 6-9ish (stretch 4) and can protect the rim and rebound on D.
The dream line up for most coaches is five 6-8 athletic kids that can shoot and handle the ball. You could switch every ball screen on defense and spread the floor on offense where the driving lanes would look like 8 lane freeways.
