The low expectations go back decades, hard to break the addiction.
I'm not going to recount all my frustration watching this program since the late 70s, but let's just say that we haven't anyone in charge who demanded excellence in this program since I arrived in 1977. Ricardo Patton and Tad Boyle have a lot in common - both were underqualified for the job, but exceeded expectations - very, very low expectations. And Patton was only hired because Chauncey insisted on it. Ricardo, then Bzdelik, then Boyle - we couldn't even be bothered to interview any candidates outside the state of Colorado, a place that NOBODY considers a basketball mecca.
As for Boyle, his program is at a low right now. A couple nice players next year, maybe we get good enough for a tournament in 2 seasons. He never gets quality bigs in here, yet loads up on guys at the 2-3 spots. That's his recipe.
I'm excited about those two fine recruits next year, but that's what he should be doing every year after 13 seasons.
