I like Ryan Walters but...
in CU's instance, I think his young age and overall inexperience (but he has been great as a coordinator) hurts him. For the new HC at CU, I wish it were just putting together a good staff, game planning, coaching x&o's, dealing with the media, closing recruitment and just having a bonded passionate competitive team.
CU needs a rebuild of the entire program from recruiting infrastructure, admin relations/forcing change etc... etc... There are just so many deficient aspects, that I just doubt a young coordinator or even a Big Sky coach could do it all-- I don't think that they would have the leverage to wage war with the admin in demanding changes. When I look at Smell Tucker, I hate how he left and have some doubts on his coaching, but in his one year he did seem to make huge steps in some program infrastructure areas. Then CU then turned their back on his progress and blew it up.
Could be the administration... I'd say it was Rick George, but as AD he oversees all CU sports. They almost need a dedicated powerful AD to football, 90% of his time + a HC that can even pick up more infrastructure aspects than a normal HC. I would love Walters as a DC/asst. head coaching and a HC in waiting relationship.
