I'm lukewarm on soccer to begin with and the WC doesn't help.
What I like: I like the international flavor of the Cup. It's cool seeing tens of thousands of people from different countries supporting their teams and not killing each other. I don't usually like it when politics are mixed with sports but I like what the Iranian players did in their first game (not singing their national anthem). The "color" and pageantry are amazing. The game itself can have bursts of excitement that are fantastic. The players are outstanding athletes and have clearly mastered their sport. Some of the goals are just incredible.
What I don't like: In between the brief moments of excitement, most of the game is pretty dry. In a 90-minute game, I'd say there is about 5-10 minutes of really great action. The rest is pretty ho-hum. The flopping and player-manufactured drama is horrible. It takes so much away from the game.
I cheer for Germany (and the US) but it would be nice to see someone new win it.
