It's so ridiculous


There is no guarantee the player will be successful or even stick around, There is no tangible ROI except for the satisfaction of seeing the team win.

People "invest" heavily in NIL because, to some degree, their self-esteem and self-worth is dependent on the success of these athletes. Bragging rights are everything to these people. It's sad.

I've been giving to a handful of charities for decades. I also donate occasionally to my alma mater and that money is earmarked for education programs. It's worth it if I can help one needy kid go to college. If I won a billion dollars in the lottery, I would increase those donations. NONE of my money would go to athletics.
