So much for "The Conference of Champions" (talking to you, Walton.)

I wonder he'll ramble on about now. Maybe he'll become a Buff.

Seriously though, if there's one area where this conference is less dinged by the defections of the LA schools to the dark side, it might be both men's and women's basketball. On the men's side, AZ will never go away as a power. Oregon never seems to go away. Are talented West Coast kids going to want to play basketball in the SEC? Some will for sure, but not all.

Meanwhile you have a men's program like CU, led by Coach Boyle, with stability. Not a power, but clean and focused and always competitive.

On the women's side, JR Payne might be building something. Stanford is always the team to beat, with USC off in the distance. Cal is as good a program, probably better. So the conference (whatever it turns into) isn't exactly gutted.

I won't post this on the football board because it'll hurt feelings, but CU's best path forward might be to let basketball be our guide. Maybe something can be worked out with the West/Midwest powers. Think Gonzaga. Kansas. SDSU. Even CSU, potentially.

Just throwing it out there for you long time BB fans.
