Other than the first few picks,1st rd picks are all projects
It is very rare that a rookie in the NBA comes in and is a top rotation guy his first couple of years. Even some lottery picks languish on the bench (or even in the g league) for a couple of years before they blossom. Breaking into the NBA is the toughest job in sports because most teams only have about 8 guys that play a lot, and when a rookie comes in he has to take one of those spots from a guy that has already proven he can do it at a high level.
