We know Trump tried the big lie, the big steal, etc. But that was not supported by the news media nor did it convince anyone except his most dedicated followers. The Steele dossier however was created and used by a failed political campaign for president and then a congressional investigating committee using it as 2018 election propaganda, claiming it was true the entire time and lied about it in the process. So Trump discredited (in part) and the elections basically solidified for the democrats in 2018 by democrat meddling in the elections.

Those people are still in leadership roles in congress, some in the Jan 6 investigation.
