How about that! I started as a Senators fan as a little kid because I was born in Washington D.C. when Dad was stationed at Bolling AFB. It was natural to stay with them when they went to Minnesota since Dad was born in Minnesota. Colorado Springs became hometown as Dad was later stationed at Ent AFB and eventually retired there from the Air Force.
All those names you bring up are embedded in my memory. Harmon Killebrew was my hero. One of the nicest men. He autographed a bunch of items for me and my little girls when I met him later in life. I saw him play a number of times.
Guys like Earl Battey, Tony Oliva, Bob Allison, Camilo Pascual, Rich Rollins, Zoilo Versalles, Don Mincher, Jimmie Hall, Mudcat Grant, Jim Kaat, Rod Carew, Cesar Tovar, Dean Chance and so on. John Roseboro later replaced Battey at catcher because he had to retire due to health problems. I could probably write a lineup card.
Here's one of my prize possessions. Killebrew autographed a 1968 Sporting News.
