If his words did not have any effect on people, would the Oathkeepers still

move into action? The lawyer for the Oathkeepers is testifying before the Jan. 6 committee, and he says that the Oathkeepers had a cache of weapons in northern Virginia, where they were camped out before the Jan 6 rally. He says they left them behind when they moved into D.C. on Jan. 6, but they appointed a runner to go get the weapons, in case Trump called for weapons.

That's a direct act of hatred inspired by Trump's words. Words mean things, and words incite people to hateful acts, like the Jan 6. riot.
If words did not mean things, then it could be argued that no one at Black Lives Matter protests could incite anyone to a riot.
It's tempting to think that no one pays attention to words from leaders -- but hateful words absolutely are vital in inciting violence. -- B4E
