I have a hard time describing JW as especially "athletic".
I know I'll get disagreement on this, but his "athleticism" is still developing, far from a finished product. The young man is easily 6'9", great presence inside, great spatial awareness, really great quickness and instincts. He just has all the tools to be a next level player. Reminds me of Chris Copeland, only WAY better instincts near the basket. CC was kind of all knees and elbows his first couple years, a lot like Jabari, but earned minutes because he had skill.
t's not athleticism that makes JW so valuable right now. In fact I think he needs to get WAY quicker with his feet, changing direction, shooting off the dribble, etc. I think he'll get good at all that, but he's not there yet. He wins battles from being a smart player with great range, and being in the right place.
Maybe it's just my definition of 'athleticism'. I viewed guys like Chauncey, Stephane Pelle, others as really athletic. On this roster I view Barthelemy and Parquet as more athletic than Jabari right now.
AGAIN, not to say he won't get there, but he's 2-3 years from growing into that frame. By then he'll be a really productive NBA guy.
