I believe CU's admin (president and chancelor) have denied the AD access
to the biggest donors. Benson hated football and only showed up to games when he gave himself an award. Thankfully the Regents, led by his own party, fired that POS for not doing his job. Unfortunately, a decade plus of damage was done. It will be good when DiStephano is gone as well (rumored this spring). Hopefully we get a new President and Chancellor that are competitive and actually care about athletics. (Sadly, most likely not, but at least there is hope.)
RG raised $100M in a couple of years when the administration was told by the Pac-12 that new facilities (Champions Center) were needed in order to be accepted into the Pac-12 ... so money is available. Unfortunately, CU hasn't had an administration that cared about football in over two decades (maybe three ... since Gee).
CU Football is still living from the ramifications of "the scandal" 20 years later. Not only has the administration not supported the AD, they in fact, have purposely tried to "de-emphasize" it, and that is why CU has had 3 winning seasons in 15+ years.
