Pass protection

Clayton has done fine in pass protection from what I recall.

As anyone can see who watches the games, the offense is a complete mess. The quarterback refuses to throw the ball and that further exposes the line and backs to scrutiny regarding pass blocking. It's also been pointed out some receivers are running into each other. No wonder the quarterback holds onto the ball.

I haven't analyzed the blocking schemes in the run game like I used to. It's hard to sit through slow motion analysis when you see the same mistakes over and over. However, it looks like the line is always outnumbered at the point of attack in the run game. Something is tipping off the linebackers in the run game because they are very quick to fill and end up outnumbering the blockers and leaving someone unblocked. This happens even with a tight end. You are potentially in trouble when defense outnumbers the blockers 7 to 5 or 6. It's even worse when a safety comes up and it's 8 defenders on 5 or 6. It seems they are lacking the concept of having sufficient blocking at the point of attack in many run plays. Play action pass plays with a quick throw to a moving receiver can counter this and loosen up the run defense.

I guess I could go on and on about the offense. Play design in both run and pass plays appears to be faulty at times. If play design is fine then coaching proper execution needs to improve big time. You can't have receivers running into each other and you can't have receivers failing to block in the run game. If the line is always outnumbered, they will never shine and will become targets for criticism. The guys aren't bad athletes and players. Coaching can take a so-called 3 star recruit into a 3 and a half or 4 star performer.

Now I think of situational play calling. I can't talk about it and have to stop. I'll go back to where I started...the offense is a complete mess.
