I met Monte Deere at Costco yesterday, anyone remember who he is?

He was wearing an OU t-shirt and when I said I was an OU fan we stopped and had a nice chat. Turned out he was one of the OU QBs who played on the 1962 team and in the Orange Bowl against Alabama. Sadly, the Tide shutout the Sooners 17-0. I know age has something to do with it but he looked about 5'8" and couldn't have weighed more than 160 lbs. He now lives in Alpine, Utah. I looked him up online. He was known as the little guy from Amarillo, Texas, would run to the Canadian River bridge and back every day, in an effort to be in the best condition possible, and it paid off when he won the quarterback job for 1962. He held the single game passing record at OU for almost 30 years until Cale Gundy broke it in 1989.
