Are Sports really sport anymore

Sport
noun
1. an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

If the entertainment part dwindles with whatever messages the teams and/or athletes want to send, "sport" goes away, as will fans, and the support (including income) for the athletes. If that does happen, will it cycle back to sport again?
