Have you actually met any teacher that prefers teaching remote learning

over having kids in class? I haven't. Every person I've talked to is worried about their students learning. They have also been grateful to parents who have been supportive. I still sub in math classes and am proctoring AP classes currently, so I've been in a building quite a bit.

Your blanket statement that public education has let the nation down is too easy to say when you really can't speak about it having never actually taught in a classroom. And that's okay that you feel that way. Just try to understand that the vast majority of teachers want their students to be successful. Hands are tied as to how instruction is conveyed--remote, hybrid or full-time. There is also the parents opinions and desires which vary widely.

Too much thought is on the impact of a few cities decisions. Chicago and New York are not representative of the whole country.

It's been a very difficult time for the students, but it has been hard for educators as well. This is not an enviable position for them. This is a very complex issue that you seem to care deeply about, which is good. Just try to look at both sides of the equation.

My daughter is a HS science teacher in Frisco, TX and this has been a very stressful year for her. Early on, it was remote only, then hybrid, now full-time (with some kids opting still for remote). She is so much happier seeing the kids and having full-time learning. She is not a union member.
