Nebraska's long term problem is they moved to the B10.

where all the teams there have money, facilities, and fans. Since the expansion of the conference, along with the SEC they have far outpaced the other P5 conferences in regards to revenue.

They are now at or below .500 against Northwestern. In Big 8 they typically would pad their schedules with preseason patsies, roll through the regular season and play OU for the championship and the Orange Bowl bid. Don't get me wrong, they were a football factory back then. It was a tier-one program but it had the advantage of a path to annually make it to the top. They also had in back pocket unlimited schollys, the partial qualifier thing, and if you believe Peter's book a Communist style weight program.

The good news for CU is they play in a conference that has been wide open of late. Since the CFP started in 2014 only one team, UW in 2016, has made the playoffs. The Buffs' road back to some semblance of respectability is doable with some scheduling acumen and vastly improved recruiting. CU has a puncher's chance of getting to CFP, NU will be a long shot.

The one big X factor is how will the NIL change the game? We really could see those mythic "county scholarships" come to fruition depending on how the courts decide the legislation will be enacted. I somehow seem to end in Omaha a couple of times a year and although not as prolific as in years past there is lots of red everywhere.

As witnessed in Folsom when they bought out the stadium, they do have a loyal fanbase. It isn't hard to envision their third string center being the recipient of the Northwestern Cattlemen's annual $15k stipend with their stars making some real dough.
