Had a close friend in college who applied for the college newspaper editor

position prior to our senior year. He didn't get it. He was renewed as a writer, but not promoted to an editor. The editor is basically the quarterback of a newspaper. He needed playing (writing) time and got it elsewhere.

He transferred to another college, got a full scholarship to be the editor of the school paper and he became a well renowned newspaper editor and has written several books and taught journalism classes in college.

He made a commitment to himself, not the ole' alma mater.

It's not just sports where kids transfer for their betterment.
