What I really think is hardly important. But I’ll answer.
Doubtless the African American community sees it precisely as you describe it. And why not? These are a people who have been forced to wait five hours in line to vote. You tell me that’s not suppression?
They think it - and they think it for damned good reason. I agree with them - but my point is Blacks believe it.
It certainly looked bad for pubs when they pushed the bill through the house, the senate and the Gov signed all within a handful of hours. If the bill wasn’t dirty - they would not have behaved in such a manner, and then - to arrest a black legislator and charging her with TWO felonies for knocking on door while the governor and his bunch of old white guys stand behind that locked door to sign as fast as they can - reeks of chicanery.
So that’s what I really really think. And that is what millions upon millions of African Americans think and know.
It’s easy to send out the claim that this was about preventing fraud. But given there was no material fraud in Georgia - as stated time and again by the Republican Secretary of State - racism is the far better explanation.
