CUAD expenses
I know the answers to some of your questions.
A huge amount of the revenue is coaches salaries in all sports. Other big expenses are debt payments on facilities. Recruiting is expensive and skews toward FB since they have so many coaches and players. Putting on games is also very costly. Hosting what is basically an outdoor party for 50K people is expensive. The University does not syphon off any money because there isn't any to take. The CUAD currently owes the campus and is paying off their loan(s).
No, the CUAD does not pay to rent the Events Center. And no, it's not named after the brewery, it's named after the family. As one of their VP's once told me, "if it was the brewery it'd be called the Coors Light Events Center."
Yes, the university sticks the CUAD with the bill for graduation in that they don't pay for facilities labor or wear/tear. The University also charges the Athletic Department for gas/electric when they do not do that for the other business units. I can't recall the exact term but it was basically that they are a non-essential business unit.
As for distributing the excess...there is no excess. The CUAD typically runs in the red.
