On this day in 1951, in an exhibition game at the University of Southern California, Mickey Mantle hit a home run estimated at 654 to 660 feet.

Here's a picture of the long-gone Bovard Field and the directions of Mickey Mantle's 2 home runs on March 26, 1951. Our present @USC_Baseball stadium, Dedeaux Field, is located the upper right corner of the area depicted in the photograph. (photo courtesy of Dana Forest).

Look at where home plate is and over all that land those balls reportedly traveled before landing. I thought, is that even humanly possible to hit a ball that far? WOW. Powdered them.
