What a great piece of reporting and storytelling. WOW. Some takeaways...

First, that article gave me chills. Very strange but true.

Second, I LOVE that KD was very upfront about what he learned at UCLA, what he knew he needed and wanted to succeed by picking his coordinators (and he chose DC?), where CU was successful in recruiting with McCartney and saying he needed to be able to have the budget to go back to those old gold mines.

“I wasn’t sure if anybody we were looking at was the right person.”

That said a lot, right?

I do think it's too early, after a sample size of 7 games (even in 2020), to say the doubters are silenced. Dorrell won about 3 or 4 more games than some assumed yet it's one short season. The jury is still out. He gets an A-grade for leadership so far, a B-grade for coaching (it would have been an A if not for crumbling against Utah in the second half (Landman or no Landman, that can't happen) and then getting destroyed by Texas), and a C-grade for recruiting.

I like that Rick George didn't force a hire and pick the wrong guy. That was excellent to read. If George and Lance Carl decided on KD, that must say something big. Clearly, they both swooned over him.

We can hope that KD becomes like Bill Belichick in the sense that he was not great at Cleveland, got fired and then became the GOAT. KD was not as expert of an assistant as Belichick was nor will he be that great as a HC but Belichick learned a lot and became much better with the Pats. Maybe KD learned a lot and will become much better with CU. It's a damn difficult (but not impossible) job.

As for Mel $$$$ Tucker, the man was offered twice his salary and a much, much better set-up for his assistants, plus the Big 10 is where he played and is a better conference than the Pac 12 currently. I still won't hate the guy for leaving, even if him leaving after the whore (MSU wouldn't leave him alone) went crazy to get him to turn his back on CU, stunned me and left me feeling sick temporarily.
