Time for Montfort to sell the team

It won’t happen ...Maybe 3 ML players the rest are borderline at best

Athletic...

The Rockies lost 91 games in 2019, but team owner Dick Monfort stated publicly on March 26 that the team would win a franchise-record 94 games in 2020. (Forget, for a moment, that this season is only 60 games.) The Rockies were the only team in the offseason not to sign a free agent or make a significant trade. Sure, they have a strong core led by Trevor Story, Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon, but the surrounding players are just not good enough for the team to contend, and the club has fallen in love with its own system, much to its detriment. Bridich has been in his job since 2014, and his track record on trades is not very good. His free-agent signings have mostly been a disaster, including spending $106 million in 2018 on relievers Wade Davis, Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee. All three were released this year.

Then there is the rift between Bridich and Arenado, only one year after the star third-baseman signed an 8-year $260 million contract. Arenado has a full no-trade clause and opt-out after the 2021 season. And Story is a free agent after next year. If Bridich somehow keeps his job, he’ll probably have to change managers to quell ownership’s 2020 disappointment, which would be too bad because Black has done an exceptional job with the cards he’s been dealt
