Can't defend what he did from a constitutional perspective
Most of what he did was probably unconstitutional, no doubt. Also most will never happen as he envisioned. For instance, he said, concerning the $400. extended unemployment benefits, the states could pick up 25% of this. About 44 states are operating in or near the red. So forget that. He also said he signed these bill to... These were NOT bills. At best they were executive orders and memoradums. Will they do any actual good? Maybe in the short run, but not down the road. But this is politics. Where often what IS, doesn't matter as what is PERCEIVED to be.
I also see another danger. What if this is challenged and goes through the lower courts fast (yeah sure, that's a dream) and does make it the SC before fall recess? And they say what he's done is unconstitutional. But he, in essence, says, I don't care and continues. It's happened before, many times in fact, with no repercussions. As my democrat friends here say, little good is going to come from this.
Congress does bear some responsibility for this. They should have reached an agreement, a compromise. It wouldn't have been easy, but it's not supposed to be. So tomorrow, instead of trying to make headlines, go back into session and get something done. Hopefully there are some moderate dems and repubs who value country over crisis.
Aside. No matter how this turns out, I will never ever vote for Trump. I wish the election was next week. The SOB can cause a lot of damage in 3 months. Go Joe!
