Going back to school this fall

This is a very complex issue, so simple solutions won't work. School learning populations are too diverse in ability, emotions and income for a one size fits all.

Special needs kids will need to be in the building as much as possible, but the teachers need to stay healthy. If a SPED teacher gets sick, it is difficult to replace them and will be hard on their kids. This is the toughest one to solve.

In-class learning is certainly the best model for most kids. The online learning last spring was implemented on the fly and only for two months. They should be much more effective this time. Teachers will have had more time to prepare and plan. Online learning is not new and kids are used to much of it. Many teachers have been using "Flipping" (lectures online, homework in class) already. Khan Academy has been a great tool for learning for years.

Yes, there will be kids who will be resistant to learning online. Most of those are the same ones who already disrupt learning and try to pass their classes via late stage negotiations ( meaning, have Mommy save you).

Some districts that will start with online only will have kids who don't have internet access come into the building where they can view their classes from somewhere in the building keeping the social distancing.

Nothing is ideal, but we must look at safety first, with viable plans to promote safety for kids, teachers and parents.

The families that already don't value learning will not value online education either, but that's a problem that schools were already dealing with. Nothing new on that.

This is going to be a divisive issue that may end up going along political lines due to most people thinking that the majority of teachers are left wing libs (which is false).

Bottom line, whatever they decide, there will be a lot of people saying they're doing it wrong.
