Re: This is what happened to me today

I learned today that my brother was exposed to covid and the man died this morning. It's a very involved story and I don't feel up to telling it all but this is/was a man, one of our elders, a Minister in our churches. My brother visited him on Tuesday morning for five minuets to deliver something to him and although they kept their distance, neither wore a mask. This man, named Jack, was not showing any signs of illness.

My brother was contacted last night by the family that their father was in the ICU and on a vent and wanted my brother to know to self quarantine. Their dad, this man, our cousin by marriage, was taken off the vent by his family today and let him go because he had a DNR and was about 83 years old. But he seemed fine on Tuesday morning.

My brother has Kaiser insurance and has a call in to them reg. testing but so far has heard nothing back but was told of an industrial type clinic for employees of businesses and he went there and paid for a nasal swab and waited for 1 1/2 hours for a turn around result, which was thankfully, negative at this time. He will still go for re-testing when Kaiser sets up an appointment. The clinic basically tells those that test negative, they are cleared to go to work. Since he's retired, he will stay home and sit it out until he's totally cleared of infection.

When it happens close to you, it really opens your eyes. And it's hard to take in. I'm hoping he will continue to not show symptoms and be ok. Meanwhile, this man, this elder/leader will be buried most likely, with only his immediate family, themselves under self quarantine, instead of the entire church brotherhood to be there for him to say goodbye.
