And those students tend get a shallow understanding

My oldest is learning stats this summer on his own so he can tutor one of his classmates in her college summer course. Yes her, not sure he would be learning stats if it wasn’t. ;) He gets it and can help her do the problems but he is frustrated with the lack of application and understanding in her online course.

As you mentioned one of the most important parts of education is the relationships that can be developed and the scientific and social skills that can be built in an in person learning community. Building relationships and seeing students succeed are the biggest reasons I have stayed in education. I miss my students and a year of online would be torture for us all.
