Depends on the league

Some leagues are expensive but all gear is provided. Others are cheaper but players (parents) buy their own helmets and pads. I knew kids in Alabama that didn't play even though all gear was provided simply because of the registration cost. It ain't cheap.

My #1 comment wasn't specific to black kids. Interest in baseball as a whole is dropping. You make valid points about the cost and available diamonds. Buying a glove, bat, etc. can be very costly.
