Thanks for the reply...I see "best by (date)...is what I was...
looking for. I'm keeping canned goods like beans, etc. (especially if there isn't any type of meat in them) as far back as 2016. I found one from way in the back dated 2013. Must have been when we had our kitchen painted. I'm sure they are still good and really, I've always thought these dates are just some vague guideline and are really meant for people that are overly concerned about "freshness" of their food, and will throw so much away and go buy more..which is the intent of the food industry. Or when there is some food drive and are asked for donations for needy families they dump all that "expired" stuff on them. Ha ha...good enough for them to eat.
One doctor told us that all the expired meds like antibiotics, etc. are used by the military and are sent to troops on the front lines. So good of our country to take care of them.
When my aunt passed away at age 91, you wouldn't believe what she had in her refrigerator and what she used...stuff that was so old!! A few years before she died, she needed a new refrigerator and everyone was (trying) to help her clean out the old one and dump it all and she wouldn't allow it! We finally had to give in because she was getting so mad and frustrated with us. She had See's full candy boxes unopened that were more than 10 years old and she insisted they not be dumped. Ha ha..
