My understanding is that it was Prep school or redshirt.

Coach Boyle agreed that redshirting was the plan for Barthelmey and he honored it. Coercing the player to change his mind would have been put into place by most Division I coaches. Not Coach Boyle, he honored Barthelemey's wishes, [his parents might have had some input] and that is what went down. It is really hard to find coaches any more who would have not have tried to make changes in the commitment. From the first practice, it was screamingly apparent that this young Canadian is an excellent player.
