Excellent question

I believe it’s a combination of all of them.

1. We need to recognize that Tad has elevated the level of CU basketball and has accomplished more in his tenure than any before him. That counts for something...and should give him a longer leash.

2. Basketball will always be a secondary sport at CU. Many of the reasons mentioned here (money, facilities, fan support, in-state athletes, etc.) are valid.

3. I do believe Tad is the best that CU can reasonably expect. I can’t think of anyone else with his track record of winning who would consider CU a dream job and a destination location.

4. All that said, his leash is not endless. I don’t think your expectation of regular Big Dance appearances is unrealistic. Like all of us, I’ll be disappointed if next year doesn’t end in a tourney invite. However, I don’t believe it should be a “Do it or your gone” scenario.

One more point that is too often overlooked. Tad has produced winning records while running an indisputably clean program. In a conference that is rife with cheating, he has led a program and a litany of young men that are outstanding representations of a University we all care deeply about.

Finally, despite criticism of his recruiting and player development, let’s also remember he’s produced more NBA draftees than any other CU coach as well.

Thanks for the intelligent question.
