Am I understanding this proposal correctly?

Winners: Seven games in conference + winner of conference championship + up to four playoff games. 8-12 games potential.

Losers: Seven games in conference + loser of conference championship + an east/west bowl game. 8-9 games potential.

If you add 3 non-conference games then winners have a 11-15 game potential and losers have an 11-12 game potential. Few college teams can stand up to a 15 game schedule. Only the deepest (the Alabamas and Clemsons) and less injury affected teams would have a shot at winning the playoff championship.

Non-conference games would be a quest by the top tier of the 128 teams to play the weakest opponent possible. The bottom feeders of the 128 would be looking for pay-days and not caring if they play the likes of Alabama.

How do you split revenue in the East and West 64 team conferences each with eight sub-conferences? The universities of today's high earning football teams aren't going to split it evenly. It's likely the East conference would earn more than the West conference given viewership and fan bases.

If you try to account for current rivalries then some 8 team sub-conferences in the southeast would be stacked while sub-conferences in the Rocky Mountain region for example would likely be made up of bottom feeders. Hardly fair for a Georgia/Florida? sub-conference when compared against a Colorado/Wyoming/Utah? sub-conference. Top and mid-level feeders in one conference and all bottom feeders in the other. And if East does not play West until playoffs then even more disparity.

It's an idea not founded in reality.
