It's a one read offense....
Because Chev LOVES the screens and drag screens. While people may think a WR is open, they aren't actually open b/c they are just blockers for a screen pass. How many times has Montez had to deal with A and C gap pressure as he's getting the ball this season? The throwing too hard excuse is weak, very weak. Catch the ball, it hit you square in the hands and Shenault hadn't had any issues previously catching his passes.
The offense doesn't utilize route concepts, we don't have intermediate and deep throws to vacate the area, we don't utilize zone breaking routes, we don't utilize drag routes that aren't screens, we don't use the middle of the field, we don't run much RPO, we don't call plays that fit Montez's strength. The only deep balls we throw are go routes on the outside, nothing in the middle of the field.
Montez was the 5th best rated QB in the Pac 12 coming into yesterday without his best WR for 3 weeks, the worst OL in the conference, maybe in P5, and the worst OC in the conference, and maybe P5. We have an OL coach that has had every single player regress under. We have WRs who drop easy passes right in their hands.
He's trying to drag a 200lb weight up hill in 3 feet of snow right now. Montez is a very good college QB being held back by issues out of his control. Roper is being limited as well by the terrible offensive scheme and what he can do with Montez.
