I’ve paid the maximum into social security all of my life.

Don’t tell me I can’t have a pension because I had the audacity to work 60 wrk weeks for over foury years and save.

Further - in many ways social security is indirectly means tested. Over the last seven work years I have been paying tens of thousands of dollars of social security taxes. The additional years of service and the additional contributions has not increased my social security pension in the least. I’m OK with that - it’s part of being in a pension system weighted towards the poor.

But I’m not ok telling me - as I move towards the handful of retirement years that I will have - and the relatively small handful of Americans who have fought and saved all their lives for a decent retirement that includes social security - you get nothing.

Any such approach, which might reduce social security expenditures by Im guessing 1% (sadly today’s retirees have no real private pension and very few have any meaningful savings) is more likely to assure the demise of social security than it is to protect it.
